Lower Your Handicap - Improve Your Short Game

Hi. One of my passions in golf is to learn how to lower my handicap, and one of the areas in golf to do this is to improve your short game. Every golfer strives to lower their golf handicap and improve their short game. For those that play it,will know that it's more than booming one 300 yards down the middle, a lot of it is to do with improving your short game. Every golfer knows there are a lot of golf shots used up 100 yards inwards to the pin, and one of the most common mistakes I used to make was whenever I was faced with a pitch I would pull out my favourite wedge. You need to think more about the golf shot, the lie, the wind and where trouble up ahead lies. To improve my short game I would practise pitching with everything from a 9-iron down to my lob wedge. This way I have a club that covers most distances.

Adding a bit of fun to my practise routine would be to look at the green up ahead and split it in three sections. If my ball landed in the inner circle I would get ten points, the middle circle I would get five points and the outer one point. I'd hit ten balls and mentally note down my score so I would repeat the drill and try to better my scores. This simple game helped me focus on the end result and not just my technique. This is a drill anyone can take with them to practise range with a bucket of balls.
